Benchmark Design’s experience in complex commercial building design dates back to the late 1980’s when the two founding members of Benchmark Design began accumulating project design & management experience for over ten million square feet of building space. This background of proven accomplishment is a valuable resource to develop the appropriate solution to future facilities development challenges. Since 1993, Benchmark Design has competed multiple projects that helped our clients achieve success. Recently, our urban projects often “mix” commercial and residential uses into one vibrant project, and Benchmark Design now has completed several successful projects of this complex nature in multiple states.

The very first project awarded to Benchmark Design in 1993 was Cornerstone Church in Johnson City, Tennessee. Since then, our approach to church / educational / civic building design is to develop plans that incorporate the maximum usable space into the constructed area. We strive to upgrade interior finishes and building amenities in areas where the greatest impact is likely to be noticed, all the while monitoring those issues essential to keeping the project within its competitive overall budget. We apply our strategic master planning skill to multi-phased projects and maximize the future growth potential while minimizing current capital investment.

Benchmark Design’s experience in parks & recreational project design has been enjoyable for us and successful for our clients. Most of our clubhouse, pool house and/or athletic facility design is usually an added aspect of a larger project. Either way, we bring to each project a fresh approach rather than a prescribed formula. Because each project has its own requirements, we address each as a unique challenge and opportunity, worthy of it's own merit and success. Many of our projects incorporate strong reference to historical precedent. In some special cases, we actually get an opportunity to restore a historical property. But new or old, we take seriously the lessons of timeless architectural elements taught to us by previous classical prototypes and their architects and builders.

Benchmark Design’s experience in residential design (both detached & attached; single-family & multi-family) is unique and extensive.
